When lining may fit
A qualifying host pipe generally needs enough continuity and access to be cleaned, measured and lined. CIPP can be valuable beneath finished floors, driveways or landscaping because it may reduce the length of open excavation.
When replacement may be necessary
A crushed section, severe offset, unsuitable transition, inaccessible branch configuration or loss of required geometry may require excavation or rerouting. Sometimes a targeted repair restores continuity so another section can be lined.
Compare total disruption, not only pipe footage
Ask how each proposal handles access openings, demolition, surface restoration, occupant downtime, permits, branch reinstatements and final inspection. A low pipe-repair number may exclude significant restoration work.
What a complete lining scope should identify
The scope should describe cleaning and preparation, liner length and diameter, curing method, access, reinstatements, exclusions, warranty terms and post-installation verification.
What a complete replacement scope should identify
Replacement proposals should show the route, excavation limits, shoring or slab work if applicable, new pipe material, connections, testing, inspections and restoration responsibility.
Use the camera as a decision tool
Recorded footage is not just a sales visual. It should document why the recommended method is appropriate and where conditions may require a change order or alternate approach.
